First of all, it's "...WHETHER or not THEY'RE gay."

Oh man, I can't believe the IGNORANCE among these answerers. Most of them have no idea what they are talking about. They say "I think" and "I believe" and "in my opinion" but none of them KNOWS a damned thing. They have never looked at the results of a single study, they have never read a scholarly article, and they for sure have never had a conversation with a gay or lesbian. The whole idea of choice is ludicrous. Even if you have never read or researched...if you had a molecule of common sense you would realize that nobody would CHOOSE a life of wretched misery. Crikey, read some of these posts. Young people are agonizing over how to come out of the closet, how to tell their parents, etc. Does that sound like choice to you?

Hi,
I do believe that it can be a choice. I know there are those that believe that it is trait a person is born with, but I don't believe it's been genetically proven either way. The fact is some people go both ways, and you never hear those people say "Hey I was born Bi". There are many factors (not fully understood yet) that contribute to the sexual direction a person leans, and these start very young in a childs life. Throw any number of these developmental years off slightly and any number of things can alter the childs perception of reality. Including their sexuality. As a person thinks, so they become. Don't underestimate the power of the human mind. If you think you're a looser.. a looser you become. If you think you like boys and you happen to be male, then boys you will like. Same goes for females. At least that is what the untainted studies are saying. The gay adgenda would like everyone to think otherwize, but data is data. We are pretty complicated us humans, so it doesn't suprise me to see so much time and energy spent on such an interesting subject. Of course anyone that has "gay" tendencies doesn't want to hear that they just might have a mental illness, but it seems to point that way according to new studies. And if you are asking because you feel this way please don't get all depressed about it. You could have a much worse defect than that. And yes, we are all defected in one way or another, and that's what makes us "Human" The Bible calls all this defect stuff sin, and if you are wondering what sin is...it just means to miss the mark. And we've all missed the mark, so don't think anyone gets off the hook that easy. Sexual sins seem to make the news more than others just because it feels good so it's hard to stop or control it, and it makes good press either in a medical study or a rag mag. We all have choices...what's yours going to be? Tell your friend that the verdict isn't quit in yet. It would be the same as telling a person that likes sex with animals that it is OK, and not to worry because some day that will be legal too. There are men that like sex with little kids, but that doesn't mean it's OK and it should be excepted. Like I said people are very complicated, but that doesn't mean everything goes, does it!? Just because it appears to be popular doesn't make it right, or make it OK because a few people are doing it. I knoe gays are saying they were mad that way, but God called it an abomination, which isn't exceptable in his eyes, so that shows it isn't part of his plan. Don't forget Sodom was totally destroyed due to sexual sins which included gay sex. So no matter how gays try to twist God's word, they will never be able to say God made them that way.

early in a persons development every child goes through a period of time that is a deciding point in regards to sexual practises. the same time is a time when a child decides if they will be of good morals or of bad or no morals. homosexual people choose to knowingly have sinfull sex . the saying in the closet is not just a saying homo's do know at a very young age that they are doing something very wrong this is why they are found in closets hiding when engaged in there terrible sins.
yes they do choose to be gay and they can choose to not be gay. this is really a matter of weakness on there part. this is why so many gay men act and are weak . they dont have pysical strenght or moral strength.
we need to return to moral ground and hope and pray God dosnt just rain down fire on the country . aids cant be more of a curse that is there to stop gays for the most part but also straight people from having sex outside of marriage. a simple fact is that aids would not be heard of if gays didnt do what they do and if people only had sex within marriage.
so yes homosexual people do choose to be gay and they can with some encoragement stop .

Your friend is right, and recent brain research supports those conclusions. It may have to do with the cascade of hormones during early pregnancy, but the fact is that 8-10% of all populations anywhere in the world, any time in history, have been gay. Gays and lesbians report being aware of their sexual orientation very early in childhood - as do straights - much too early for it to be a conscious choice.

Think about it. Do you remember the morning you woke up and chose to be heterosexual? How do you choose the people you are attracted to? And finally, who in their right mind would CHOOSE to be ridiculed, disrespected, humiliated, abused, and condemned to live a life without a "normal" family or children?

Choice? Get serious.

It is a choice. If it were biological it would have been bred out years ago since the gay community cannot reproduce and continue any "homosexual" gene.

As it becomes more and more accepted in society it becomes a more availiable choice for people. As this is true we will see a rise in the gay population. This cannot be attributed to biology, but the acceptance of a given choice.

I do not believe that people are born alcoholic (other than FAS), mass murderers, or homsexuals. They make that choice in life, they draw their own conclusions to circumstance.

People who vacillate between attraction to men and attraction to women are bisexual.
While they do not choice to be bisexual, a bisexual, being attracted to both genders, can choose to only express it with one.

Only a bisexual could make the claim it is a choice to be gay. A straight person knows they are not choosing to be straight, so they'd never make such a claim.

Bisexuality is not studied enough and very misunderstood.

People can go around saying, 'oh I'm gay/straight' but it's just a natural thing that you grow up with and you can't really truthfully decide for yourself, yet you can pretend.

People decide to be homosexual!

Its not genetic or inherited....its a choice and people make it! Some because they are bored and others, because they have issues with the opposite sex!

People should stop blaming God and the amount of hormones they were given.....they should wake up and grow a brain, for crying out loud!

No, you don't choose your sexual orientation any more than you choose your eye color or parents.
You can choose to be celibate or not but not the gender that interests you.
