I am a Buddhist who may as well be considered an atheist - since Buddhism has no existence of God(s).
It is a philosophy, Buddhism, that we are all born with Buddha Nature, not afflicted with sin, as some Theists believe.
Buddhists must find their health, moral, emotional, spiritual, social, reciprocal, etc. through the help of meditation, which is the foot of the philosophy.
I try to treat, as I practice the Buddhist philosophy, what has cleared in my mind towards the betterment of myself, so that I can be a better, more conscientious person to our own kind, animals, plants, the planet - as so to relieve it (as much as one person may) of its vast suffering, primarily at our unthinking or neglectful hands.
I believe that the philosophy of Buddhism helps clear a cloudy or obscured human slate, little by little.
I am a far more conscientious person now, than ever I was before in my life . . and my Buddhist path, I have been on for 23 years. There are still eternities to follow in order for any collective success or considerable achievements to be realized.
I am not seeking enlightenment, I seek the edification we all need to search for in order to begin creating a better world than we've contributed to make, as exists now!

As an atheist is defined as a person who has no beliefs in any religion, how can you claim a moral code based on any faith? You have violated the Law of non-contradiction- you cannot be X and non-X at the same time and in the same respect. You can be an atheist with your own so-called "moral code", but you can't be an atheist with a moral code based on different faiths, as the dennotative and connotative understanding of faith is that which implies belief in a particular religion. That faith(or informed trust) can be vested in something other than religion is obvious, but the first sentence of your question is,"Do you believe in the principles laid down by the Bible?", so we'll focus on that as meaning that you understand that faith and moral codes as laid down in the Bible are principles that no atheist lives by and that we can conclude that your entire question makes absolutely no sense.

I'm not an atheist, although I was for about 10 years. I accept the principles laid down by the Bible, just as I did when I was an atheist. My Christianity is probably influenced by Buddhism to some extent, but I think the moral code is strictly Judeo-Christian.

The trouble with atheism is there's really no foundation for morality other than what you want, but atheists seem to tend to go along with the moral codes of whichever religions are around them, even though they don't actually subscribe to the religions.

We're living in the Post-Christian era now, and I worry about the direction of the moral drift. The record of atheism as a moral foundation in such places as the Soviet Union and Cambodia, and the record of Neopaganism in such a place as Nazi Germany should give pause to most people who will consider the question.

I am a theist, I guess that's the opposite of atheist. I believe in God, but I read texts from many faiths and philosophies and do what my conscience tells me I should do and what feels right. Most of the "good" or "moral" things I do now, I do because I have learned from experience and I do them of my own free will and preference.

if you look beyond the technicalities and just look at the basic philosophies, I find that many of the eternally enduring great spiritual texts from all sources tend to have more in common than difference.

Atheism is a strong religion since it is a religion that opposes all other religions and it worships a "non-god". It is like the opposite side of any coin or the other side to a doorway or "up" as opposed to "down" and "in" instead of "out".

All of the other religions could not exist without their opposites which is Atheism.

Moral codes can exist without a religion support because Moral Codes, in themselves, are religions.

I grew up with one that was reinforced when I join the Army a while back, but has stayed with me forever. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless service, Honor, Integrity and Personal courage. Acronyms: Leadership or LDRSHIP.

Most of the major religions have almost the same basic fundamentals. Don't kill, steal, rape and so on. These are some of the basic ideals of a healtly society. If everyone went around killing each other the society would fall apart.

I have a major Biblical influence on my moral code. 10 Commandments, words of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your full disclosure.

Moral code, huh? It's probably based on what you are willing to do when no one is looking.
