Question

has to be from 1880-1980, taken place within 24 hours, and nothing too cliche like the JFK assasination or the invention of TV. any ideas would be greatly appriciated!

Salvage Work on USS Nevada, December 1941 - April 1942


Nevada was refloated on 12 February 1942 and entered Pearl Harbor Navy Yard's new Drydock Number Two on 18 February.

Here's another one.

February 18, 1946 Clemens August Graf von Galen is elevated to cardinal.

Galen was the Bishop of Muenster during the period of Nazi domination. From the beginning he publicly criticized the party and on occasion complained directly to Hitler. In the early years he had some successes with his protests. On one occasion he even ignited a public demonstration. Documents found after the war indicate that the party was about to have him done away with, but wanted to wait until their victory in the war. Of course, the Nazi victory was never achieved and at the end of the war, in 1946, Galen was made a cardinal. Cardinal Galen died on March 22, 1946.

how about the bombing of pearl harbor and the then bombing of japan. or even the first 24 hours of the towers going down form the scams on the internet for donated money to the just tragic thoughts that happened also did anyone else notice that we were all nicer to each other for about a year? someone swore at me a year later and it occured to me noone had sworn or done anything I would say crass or cruel in front or to me for at least a year before that/year after towers. how about the first uses of the plane in warfare maybe even the first day of the civil war our first fight against the british in our fight for freedom. these should spark some interest and thought
