this is a new laptop and i can not get the touch screen to work

down in the lower right corner of the tool bar there is a letter either r or l if you want to left click then touch the letter till it changes to l if you want to right click then touch the letter till it turns to r then you can touch anywhere on the screen and get it to act like your using a mouse

Did you try to remove the RAM to see if that was it? Since you know how to remove the keyboard, you could go a little further by checking the Fan & heat sink for dust, and maybe even re-seat the CPU.
