I just started in an adult-geared program at a local college. I go to class only once per week (for four hours) and each class only lasts 5 weeks. But, they say to expect to spend 15-20 hours per week doing assignments and studying. Thats alot of time and with my schedule I'm not sure I can do that. I was wondering how much time per week the average University of Phoenix student spends on studying and doing assignments since that also is an "adult-geared" program.

They spend a lot less time per class. It is For Profit corporation that is not a good school.

That is why the school is not nationally accredited (their accreditation is from a far less prestigious local organization). It is why they recently paid a record $9.8MM fine to the Department of Education for sleazy recruiting practices. It is why they are currently under investigation for padding their placement numbers. It is why companies like Intel recently decided to refuse to pay for their employees to take classes there. It is why many employers refuse to hire its graduates.

Read the following NY Times article on the University of Phoenix before even thinking about applying.

Stay where you are. Do the work.

Well about U of P, first off they are about $580/credit hour. Now that that's out of the way. You won't have lectures so you pretty much have to teach yourself everything. There are papers that have to be written every week, some are individual and some are group/team papers. You will spend a lot more than 15-20 hrs a week.

Online isn't for everyone. There are dozens of online schools. Some require tests, some papers, some both. And they all vary in cost.

I got my associates in a brick & mortar school, my bachelor's in an accelerated online program, and now I'm working on my master's in a non-accelerated online program. None from Univ of Phoenix, though. Bellevue University & now Walden University. Another good one is Capella University. But the idea is still pretty much the same. Papers every week, and lots of reading and research. The schools I have attended have the same accrediting agency as Northwestern, Univ of Michigan, Ohio State, etc.

I received my MBA from UOP. I spent about that much on some weeks, less on other weeks.

However, I recommend that you get your degree from a more respected school. I received comments like "I don't know what they teach at that school" and when I applied for another masters at Michigan, they were iffy on using transcripts form that school.

There are many public schools that are less expensive that can be completed on-line. Don't feel overly rushed to complete the program, you will carry the degree with you for the rest of your life. The worth of the degree is made up of the rigor of the curriculum and the reputation of the institution.

it may incredibly selection based while the project is due in, if its a pair of weeks in the past possibly 0.5 an hour to an hour analyzing around the project and the week in the past 2-5 hours an afternoon, the evening in the past a super sort of the evening re-analyzing and changing paragraphs.
