I read on the news clicker this morning that there is a Law trying to pass that will prevent parents from spanking thier children.
Unfortunately, these are Familys with dads.
I believe that most of this problem stems from absent Dads, who in my youunger days was the diciplinarian of the Family.Remember (those of you who were born 30 yrs ago)Mom screaming...Just Wait Till your Dad gets home!.Brought fear and immediate behavior adjustment..I am grateful for every whipping I got too.It showed me that my Parents cared enough to correct my outrageous behavior, and I respect them more for it.These kids today show lack of respect more for themsleves, so, of course, they do not respect anyone else.
I think that the family unit needs to be restored, so that some structure is provided to make way for discipline. In order to do that, Parents need to represent an autority worty of respect to begin with.It is a shame that we should even consider takeing these rights away from the Parents, then the Laws turn around and make the Parent resposible for the kids crimes.I just don't understand it.

YES!
Children do need to be disciplined by their parents. The problem today is that there is so much abuse that laws have been made to stop it. With those laws in place it is hard for parents to discipline better than just grounding for fear of getting in trouble with the law.
I was disciplined well as a child, but not abused. And I can honestly say it is because of that discipline as a child that I grew up to be respectable to others, and to take responsibility for my own actions.

Yes! I have been harassed off and on by CPS for more than four years and the result is, I can't stand up to my kids in any way. I have already been through cycles of accusations of abuse or neglect (at different times) when my son didn't want to be disciplined. None of the accusations held, because there was nothing there. But I have to live with the constant threat of the police or a social worker showing up at my door to "check things out." I don't see how our civilization can hold up much longer when parents have to be held in such fear.

Most kids nowadays have no respect for anyone or anything, parent must take some of the blame but peer pressure and today's easy attitudes must take most of it. Plus these stupid dogooders give kids too many options to spout rules and regulations t their superiors, I'm not advocating violence and abuse but when i was growing up i got a good hiding if i stepped out of line and it didn't do me any harm

Yes - to hell with political correctness.
The cycle needs to be stopped, and discipline restored within family units. Rescind punitive laws which prevent chastisement, but make sure parents are aware of the limits within which they can operate.
