Check and make sure they put the heater hoses on the right way. Also did they put in a new thermostat.

You haven't got enough coolant in your engine system so there isn't enough to fill the radiator and the heater matrix, which is like a small second radiator behind the dash. If it was filled when you had the new engine fitted then there could be a leak, probably from a hose coupling that hasn't been tightened enough.

Check to make sure it has a thermostat, and that it is installed right side up. It should be at the engine side of the top hose, under a housing. Check your coolant level, and check for leaks.

Overheat - check the cooling system - thermostat working? water pump working? radiator fan working? sufficient coolant? fan relay working? any leakages??? Get you mech to troubleshoot the system

No heat in the car - unrelated problem with the first - Get the mech to check on the hot air intake opening.
