There's a girl here at work who has made it her job to tell my boss every negative thing I do or say, but makes up lies to make them 10 times bigger. My boss doesn't believe me that she's lying because she's my boss's favorite person in the whole world. So Now I'm 1 bad thing away from being fired. I need to have this job at least through the end of my contract because I don't have a lot of money saved up to help live when I need to find a new job. And I'm afraid I won't be able to find a good job because my boss will give me a bad reference. What do I do?

My boss won't listen to me because this girl can apparently do no wrong.

I am so sorry to hear that, i have been in a similar situation and it is not very easy. If your boss is approachable, then go talk to him, or talk to someome who knows him well and can talk to him in stead of you. You need that job, fight for it

Go higher than your immediate supervisor and complain. If there is not truth in what the girl is saying and nothing can be proved and they fire you then you could possibley have a law suit. But why even bother. I wouldn't want to work for a company that played games like your company is doing. Start looking for another job right away and learn from your experience. Next time around try not to let anyone hear see you doing anything that might get you into trouble.

Here in the US, the boss is only required by law to list your date of hire, your job title, and the date you left the job as a reference. You can sue him for saying anything that might prevent you from getting another job.
