Probably a better question in "Military".
The fact that he was the first to break the "sound barrier" is remarkable as he was the selected pilot. Could have been one of many available test pilots.
So, I present that this feat is actually not overly important. Besides it was an "unknown" for a period of time due to "Cold War" secrecy.
Therefore, nothing changed due to his historic flight.
But "how did he change history", well that is also a military question and answer. General Yeager was a role model from his days a a P-51 fighter pilot in Europe during WWII. His shooting down of five German planes in one day was an accomplishment but did not change history.
But it was not his war record or awrds but his role in the development of methods and attitudes for test pilots. He is credited with changing the way all pilots speak as to both jargon (words and phrases) and style as to his regional accent.
He lead by example, inspired pilots to understand the technical as well as the importance of what they were doing. The "enemy" was not the Soviets but our own limitations as men facing a need to advance aerospace and the knowledge of manned flight.
In the above he was a true pioneer as much as Daniel Boone, he opened new trails into the frontiers of space itself.

Chuck Yeager was the first man to travel afster than the speed of sound. At the time, no one was sure what would happen to a human body when it broke the sound barrier. Yeager was a test pilot that was brave enough to fly the Bell X-1 after the original pilot asked for a huge sum of money and was fired. There is controversy around whether he was actually the first, but he is officially recognized to be the first. Yeager went on to fly with the Air Force in Vietnam. The world has changed today because thanks to brave pilots like Yeager, we now have the technology and experience to fly aircraft (military and civilian (see Concorde)) at supersonic speeds, giving America an advantage over those without these capabilities. Hope this helps.

Chuck Yeager did not change history. Nobody can "change history" since history refers to things that have already happened. Now if you are asking what historical events that are attributed to Chuck Yeager, then you have a good question and you will find a wealth of information on Google! Search "Chuck Yeager" or "Chuck Yeager accomplishments".

The first human to break the sound barrier.
Used a broomstick to help in this endeavor; in a way, I guess he swept in the modern jet age.
Just a poor S.O.B. doing his job and trying to make a living.
