Bedbugs are blood suckers. They feed on the skin that sluffs off as we sleep. One good way to keep them from getting into your bed is to use a plastic cover on the mattress. Read about them here www.mayoclinic.com/health/bedbugs/DS00663

When I was a little girl, my grandmother used to have the maid take the mattresses and pillows out in the back yard and sun them in the hot summer weather all day long. This was supposed to kill bedbugs.
A friend told me that he remembers going to his grandmother's and that the bedbugs made squeaking noises when he was trying to go to sleep.

No matter what you do if you or someone sleeps in the bed they will come back. The bugs feed on dead skin you leave behind and most of the time you cannot see them.
