Although I've never experienced either, I would imagine being raped by a parent would be more damaging.

If the parent has done something really bad and your friend cannot accept it then let it be. They know what is the right choice for them and what they do. What I am trying to say is that you have to leave them accept it in their own time. How do you know how it felt, to be hurt by your parent? Don't worry they will soon discover how to make the future brighter as soon as they accept what has happened to them in the past.

I think having a parent kill themselves is worse, although I have to say that both crimes are terrible. But in the case of the rape, they have a chance to go to therapy together and get some answers. But if the parent is dead, you are left with conflicting emotions (love/hate) and you can never get any answers. You can only talk to that person in your head. I've been there- it was hell to go through! It took me years.....

The answer lies within the person. Both are terrible, but it relies on the strength of the individual to overcome whatever it may be. Your job is to help them maintain and be willing to hear what they have to say. Be non-judgmental. That is the key.

I dont think it does have anything todo with your religon because all faiths have the same emotions. In my oppinion they are both bad because a child could blame themselves for both incidents.
Rape scares you mentally forever.
Your parents commiting suicide could also scare you mentally forever depending on the circumstances.
However I don't beileve that anybody, including myself, should be comparing them both, as they are to totally differant subjects and very few people have experianced them both.

Both acts are selfish, but at least the parent who raped their child still has the opportunity to change their ways and seek forgiveness. Killing yourself, of course, affords no such opportunity!

Just be the very best friend you can be. Always be there when they need you, and never let them down.
It would be best to urge counseling, if they haven't already gone. They need to know it's not their
fault, and they should NOT feel ashamed!

there is no one answer to that question. Just be supportive to that person is all you can do. Be nice, talk nice and all will be fine in the end. Support and friendship is what this person needs.
