Does anyone know how to remove ear wax at home. My 13 year old has wax in her ear and its bothering her. I have heard of mineral oil for removal but does anyone else have any other ideas.?

Thanks in advance.

Also, I have heard for years as well as other people that Q-tips are REALLY bad . Many doctors say that.

This is for those who are giving Q-tip advice.

Murine makes special drops for ear wax removal. It may take several applications and time for it to work. Her Dr. can also remove it. Whatever you do, don't dig around with Q-tips or any other remedy. It will impact the wax and make it worse.

Debrox is the best solution for ear wax, but it might require more than one application. Debrox does contain peroxide, so those recommending peroxide aren't too far off, but peroxide alone is too drying for the ears and may cause them to itch excessively--and then you'll be digging at them with a q-tip or bobby pin and really hurt yourself. My ex and all of my kids have always had nasty nasty wax buildup. :-( Do this before you go to bed. Lay on your side with that ear up. Fill the whole darn ear with debrox. (Forget the five drop thing. It sounds like you have a lot of wax.) Try to go to sleep while it's bubbling and you're laying on your side. If that's not possible, don't sweat it, just lay like that as long as possible. You may have to do this 3-4 nights to get it all out. You want to do it when you can spend a lot of time in one position so that the medicine stays in contact with the wax so it can dissolve it. It doesn't do any good if you just leave it for a couple of minutes.

You can use mineral oil for a few days (usually 3 or so), then you can squirt body temperature water in the ear (try to squirt at an angle to get behind the wax buildup) & turn the head to drain. You may get a big piece of wax or little small pieces...but either way it works. Some people also say to mix the water with hydrogen peroxide...1/2 & 1/2 I think. Good luck

I have a right ear that is constantly with built up wax.I use a product called,Similasan. It removes wax, cleans the ear and reduces chronic ear wax congestion..
You can get it at Wal-marts and other stores without a prescription..It really works great..Also, you can get a inexpensive syringe especially made for flushing out the ear.don't put a Q-tip in the inner ear canal..As you already have been told, this can cause even more problems..Try placing a warm compress just behind the ear.It will help too.

A really weird way (and natural) is to take a Q-tip and wet it with your saliva. It's really gross, I know, but the saliva will actually stick to the inside of the ear and pull the wax out.

There is a product called DeBrox or DEBROX, I believe it is made by Murine, I know you can get it at WalMart. My doctor gave me samples a few years ago and I really liked it.

It usually has an expiration date on it so it last a long time.
