hi folks i am lookin at puttin forward controls on my 75 sporty.... i have been told by someone that 75 models come as a split set... left control is of a 75 and right is of a 76 (is how they come) this model 75 still has the drum brake rear on it.... now my main question to u all is will a set of 76 model controls fit on her.. as they look to be the same but was told the gear shift spline goes across to the right side on the 76 forward controls. or are they both on the same side and these controls will fit with minimul drama's... im confused and anyone with the know how can u b nice and explain it to me thanks ppl .....

You should be able to use the 76 shifter on a 75...At the worst, your shift pattern will be backwards (first gear up, rest down). There is a conversion kit in JP cycles to correct this, involves an extra linkage and bushing, but not too hard to install. You should have no problems, though...I just did a 70 sportster (900cc) and used the controls from a low rider, worked out okay. Happy trails!!!
