I really can't say anything about Counterstrike, as my only experience with it has been seeing my friends at school spending hours into the night playing it with each other. I suppose that has to say something for the replayability of the multiplayer games....
Both Diablo I and Diablo II can be fairly addicting if you let it. The storyline's are only so-so and, for me, the best part of the game was getting attached to a character that you've spent so many hours developing. I've been playing since the first one came out and still am able to come back after not playing for months and still be entertained.
My personal favorite, however, is Halo. Unlike Diablo the maps and the character don't change, but it's a very well put together game. There's a handful of difficulty levels and, depending on which, the dialogue changes and the AI becomes more difficult (versus just decreasing your damage, etc.).
I think that the decision should really be based on your personal preference, though. If you're not planning on purchasing too many more games over the next couple of months/years, pick up Diablo Battlechest. I think you'll enjoy the wide variety of characters and their respective abilities for quite awhile (many of which take quite a bit of game time to get to). If you think that you'll be getting something different in a couple of months, pick up Halo. It will be just enough time to give you the satisfaction of beating the game on Legendary.

Get Counterstrike Source. Diablo gets boring after about 5 hours or so.
Halo is so much better on the xbox and counterstrike is fun to play forever, or at least longer than any of the others.

Some things to consider:
Diablo is a 3rd person game, meaning the camera is above you. It is also single-player only (as far as I know), which means once you're done, you're done.
Counterstrike is 1st person and 3rd person. The camera is either behind you or is your "eyes." It is also a fairly difficult game, but has multiplayer.
Halo is 3rd person primarily with 1st person option, and the camera can be difficult to control at times. It's also a fairly tough game, and has multiplayer.
The choice is obviously yours. Halo and CS are both FPS with multiplayer capability. Diablo is single player RPG. Which type do you like to play more? Personally, I don't play any of them as I'm not big into FPS games, and Diablo is, well.... old school anymore.

Counter Strike-source all the way. in case you purchase CSS you will additionally get one million/2-existence 2 deathmatch, and Day of Defeat-source Deathmatch. So basicly you get 3 video games in one. that's relativly decrease priced additionally. one element nonetheless, there are those that have been enjoying CSS for months hours on end and could be incredibly greater powerful than you.

Halo - One of the best first person shooting games ever made. May I also suggest Half Life 2.
