I'm only 5 weeks pregnant (first time) and I went to a fancy restuarant last night. I ordered a salad and it had feta cheese on it. I know about deli meats and brie cheese, but I wasn't sure about eating the feta. So of course I just scraped it off my salad and put it on another plate. I ended up eating half of it, but I must have left a tiny piece in it and accidently ate it. Now I'm totally freaking out!!! I read on line that even having other foods touching unpasturized foods can be harmful!! I don't have any symptoms of being sick but I can't get in touch with my doctor until Tuesday due to President's Day. I just wanted peoples opinions with experience who have ate this while pregnant or had listeria. Next time I will definitely know and ask for a new salad!!!!

Virtually all feta cheese sold in the US is pasteurized, which negates the risk. Don't worry, but do steer clear of the lunch meats.

you are right, you should not eat deli meat unless they are heated to at least 160 degrees. A lot of people will tell you that you can and it's nonsense but you can't eat it. Feta cheese is also a no-no as well but a little piece isn't going to hurt you or the baby. You will harm the baby over one little piece. You should stay away from it from now on...sometimes mistakes happen and you eat something then your dr. tells you not to eat it. We are still learning. Don't beat yourself up over it. Don't worry you are fine. Good luck and congrats!!

I'm sure you're fine. But if it calms your nerves there should be some kind of nurse hotline you can call. I ate deli meats all the time while I was pregnant and I never got sick and baby is very healthy and happy. So you should go over again about what foods to avoid and with your doctor.

No it can not even if you had only feta cheese for the whole meal. The reason is that the milk before to be cheese has been brought to boiling temperature.
By that my wife had to be dead 270 times since when she was pregnant. She eat only feta cheese that period. It happened to be Greek both of us.

Don’t worry nothing will happened to you

No i don´t think that eating that one piece is something too worry about. If you ate a whole tub I would say you have something to worry about...

you have the same chances of getting listeria as getting salmanila (SP) it is just more dangerous for pregnant women to get it so they try to avoid the chances. i think you'll be fine, no need to freak out
