example i downloaded saw 3 but i couldnt watch it on windows media player

The torrent is a sharing technology and all depends on what you are downloading,
if its a media file, then yes maybe you would need codecs,
i would recommend VLC player that run mostly all codec,

and keep your Windows Media player and Real Player updated,

You aren't watching "torrents". The file you are trying to view is probably a xvid file or mp4 file. Go to http://www.videolan.org and get the free VLC player. It will play all video file types.

No just download VLC media player or Videolan....Think of it as a universal remote for your tv..its plays damn near everything .....Just drag and drop into VLC media player and watch your downloaded tortrent.....

try using vlc media player it will play anything and download a codec pack too.
