Cell phone in VT?

This is for people who live in Vermont. What are the pros and cons of buying and using a cell phone in Vermont?

I use a prepaid. I won't buy a normal monthly plan:

1. They are expensive. I pay $20 every three months for my Virgin Mobile and that's about all I use.

2. Service is good near Lake Champlain. But as I head to my sis-in-law's in Johnson or to my best friend out in East Corinth, there is no service to be had. Plus there is a wicked dead zone on the Interstate between Milton, Georgia, and St. Albans.
