i recently had to have my computer crashed and everything re set up. It is now working except the ports in the back of my harddrive will not detect things. The red, green, and blue ports will not detect my speakers or microphone and the usb port will not detect my webcam. The control pannel says they are not plugged in when they are. I have opened the back of the hard drive to see if anything was lose but everything seemed to be ok. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to start--control panel--sound audio devices---check drivers status........if no drivers click properties----drivers tab---and try update driver if not roll back drivers. Work round this as it may not be as serious as first thought, Good luck.

Sounds like 1 of 4 possible issues, or a combination any or all of the 4.

Possibility #1: Power Supply is dying. It may power up the computer enough to boot, but not enough to power everything. Very common issue, as I just went through it myself.

Possibility #2: Motherboard is failing. Not as common, but still a possibility since you are having multiple issues.

Possibility #3: Connections and cards are loose. VERY common after a move. This "move" also incldues going from a shop to your home, etc. Turn off and unplug the PC, open the side panel and make sure all of the cables and cards are fully seated and attached. Replace the panel, plug in the PC and try again.

Possibility #4: Hard drive is failing. Another common after-move problem, as hard drives do not handle shock very well.

One thing to keep in mind for audio: speakers plug into green, microphone to pink and anything like an external CD player goes to blue.

For possibilities #1, 2 and 4, it is best to have a computer shop take a look at it.

Your sound card requires drivers in order to work properly. Drivers are software "instructions" that tell your computer how to handle a certain device.
You should have this software, as it would have been supplied when you bought the computer. If not you will need the make and model of your sound card or motherboard, and you will nned to search the web for the drivers.
