To answer that, we know to know what lind of league you are in, and how you score (rotisserie, head-to-head, points: if rotisserie, what categories, etc.)
Possible candidates include Soriano and Jose Reyes, if steals are at issue, or maybe Ryan Howard.
(PS - about drafting Santana first: if you are in a rotisserie style league that counts saves, normally you shouldn't draft a pitcher that high. A pitcher won't help you in 5 categories. But Santana is so far better than the next pitcher he's worth a first round choice, even an early first round choice.
On the other hand, in a points-style league, he might be as good a first pick as any.)

Reyes is the best pick at that spot. Lots of people love Howard (and he is a great one) but there are lots of 1st basemen to be had further down the draft that can put up big numbers. After Reyes and a couple others the SS numbers are not good at all. Soriano would be the other good pick in that spot but many a huge contract free agent that signs with a new team struggles during the first year of trying to live up to the deal. If you take Reyes you will outproduce everyone virtually everyday at SS, this is a nice advantage and like i mentioned earlier there are 1st basemen deeper in the draft that may not put up Howard numbers but will put up huge numbers comparable.Howard might find he is getting Barry Bonds treatment this season as there is little behind him to get pitchers to pitch to him, why pitch to him if the guys behind him cant do the job (Utley hits in front of him). Reyes has improved every year and with the bats behind him there is no reason his numbers wont be even better this year.

I would say Soriano, his power numbers will go up and he might lose some speed, but he'll still be awesome. I would say not to draft Howard because although he put up spectacular numbers last year I would bet 1/3 to 1/2 of his homers came in about a 2 1/2 week period in August. That is fine if you are in a roto league but H2H it might not be as good.

If Santana goes 1st or 2nd....someone should have their head examined. No pitcher is worth a lst round pick. I personally never draft a pitcher before the 4th or 5th rounds. With a little homework on your part...you can put together a very very solid pitching staff without drafting a pitcher early.

uncomplicated call right here, Alfonso Soriano. he will provide you each little thing and could be between the appropriate ability hitters on the board at that element. Dont take Santana if he remains there, you will get high quality pitchers later yet im assuming you already knew that.

Jose Reyes is the safe pick
in baseball, don't go safe...
go with Ryan Howard( who plays in a little league park)
or
Alfonso Soriano (Ramirez and Lee to drive him in)

Depends on point system, but Reyes is most likely your best bet.
