i just bought a civic si, and i just found out that the car is burning oil so quick you wont believe, i just changed the oil in the car like 3 weeks ago and when i checked it recently, i found out it was empty, there is no leak, i know it is burning oil, because 2 mechanics checked it out, i dont want to buy another engine because i checked the price on the engines everywhere and they cost about 1600 dollars, does anyone know the best thing to,do, i know a buddy of mine who is a mechanic and he has done some engine rebuilds b4, but never worked on b16s b4, My problem i am facing now is rebuilding an engine any different than putting in another engine, the current engine has about 72000 miles on it, What are the risks on rebuilding an engine, and what parts do i have to replace on the engine.

Only 72000 miles and its burning oil already? Somebody didn't do their oil changes regularly, and likely beat the crap out of the car. If you can't return the car ( some states have "cooling off" periods or implied warranties for 30 days), you might need to evaluate the rest of the car- is it clean? is everything else working properly? salvage the car, if so. Have the engine rebuilt, as you don't know what kind of shape a new engine will be in. At least with a rebuild you'll know everythings good and, again, with a rebuild you should get some kind of warranty on the engine.

For a Honda 72000 miles is nothing. It seems the car was abused. There are two things to look at. One, you may have a broken piston ring. Two, if the engine ever got too hot, you may have burned out or hardened valve guide seals. The first thing I would do is run a compression test to determine if it is a ring. If compression is good then just give it a valve job with new seals. Top end gasket sets are not too pricey. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you will need to do a re-ring job. Again rings and bearings and gaskets might run 200 to 400 dollars. If you don't know how to rebuild an engine, just go get a book and have your buddy help you. Jap engines are really easy, I have rebuilt several and they last. good luck.

an engine burning that much oil is junk. You got taken. that mill is ready for a complete over haul, or scrap yard.

No risk rebuilding the engine, it's just that it will cost you some bucks to have the job done right.

first of all b16a b16b engines burn oil new there piston rings spiral to much due to high rpm range . sounds like head gasket leaking possible 2 or 3 cyl see it all the time . easy to change 2 hour job and cheap gasket . pull out plugs and inspect them individuale will tell you which cylinder is bad
