They use a different signal system ie PAL SCAM etc Spain is the same they use a different PAL system. you get a picture but no sound. Nothing to do with voltage as most of EU countries are pretty much the same give or take a volt 240 v

the analog television system used in France is SECAM and Great Britain uses PAL

It is because they use the SECAM colour system which is different to the PAL system used in the UK

either the sound works on a different frequency as a spanish one does to english or the power ratio is slightly different there should be a switch to regulate the power
