They are so superficial and lack depth. This is reflected in modern movies and the media.

Films in the olden days had depth to them...so what has happened to society.

Im 25 and I miss seeing/meeting people with genuine value and compassion for life.

Hi there Life Is Too Short,

You want to join my crowd of friends, we work hard, have fun.
we debate serious subjects. Care about society and wider world issues. Like you, we love some of the old films, while enjoying the best of the new.

I work with students, I love their high spirits, don't be fooled into thinking the young are irresponsible ( of course a few are), they belong to music and drama groups, discuss all manner of things.
Unlike some, I have respect for the youngsters; I have under my tutelage as a lecturer.

Yeah! they play tricks on me, and we have a laugh, why not. However, they know when to knuckle down and work, I admire them so much,

Don't believe all you read in the papers, good behaviour isn't news, bad behaviour is!

They are not superficial, they do have depth...

May be you have just met the wrong people.

Good question though, it opens up debate...

Thank you!

You're 25,I think you're just noticing it. The shallowness thing might be getting worse but has been going on for quite a while now. I first noticed in the 70's when I was about 25 myself. Then it was drugs, rock, rock, drugs, sex, alcohol, sex, protest, drugs, sex, alcohol etc... I think as we get older and mature we can see things we were blind to earlier. People with genuine values and compassion are out there and in all walks of life and age groups. You just have to look harder for them now a days.

Indeed I'm 27 and I feel the same, I thought I was alone in thinking this.

I'm sure there's many people out there who don't care about how much money they have, or whether the clothes they are wearing are at the height of fashion.
I just haven't met them, and find that few people believe me especially men, when I say that I hate shopping and am the complete opposite to the stereotypical girl (shoes and handbags). I just like to have conversations about things that are relevant to life.

no longer all women are like this, particular admittedly lots are in my opinion it does not make any distinction what track they hear too in actuality i think of its sturdy which you do your guy or woman ingredient and be guy or woman i take excitement in you for that .the rationalization why they are so close minded is in all probability because of the fact they have a very special theory of what their dream guy would be like and if and in case you do no longer fall into this in any respect nicely shall we only say you've a job attempting to alter their concepts i'm and know many women who're no longer shallow i for my section do no longer care what human beings think of of me(to that quantity) if women are shallow then they do no longer deserve you!!

People want everything now, now, now, and they don't seem to take the time to really appreciate life anymore. The world has turned into a quick-paced reality with a "gotta go" and "hurry up so I can do the next thing" attitude. There are actually quite a few of the people you're looking for right here in P&S, I've seen them :)

I think people are the same. Films and books create an illusion, ideal world, and it seems that people were "better" before.
Movies are entertainment and old moves were superficial to people who lived back then and watched them. Now they are "full of depth". The same will happen to ours

don't equate the movies with real life, however your question is valid.the media encourages rude obnoxious behaviour and thinking of other people's feelings seem to be a thing of the past in some circles.....how ever there are lots of folks out there who are not like that.and you have to pick and choose who you associate with...children learn their values at home...so I guess it all 'starts'there.and what are we teaching our children.......I.ve heard a 3 year old out swear an adult......and the parents laughed...so what are they teaching their child..you're right it is lacking in our society more than ever.

the olden days? har. oh, take me back to those glorious days of yesteryear.

I agree that North America's culture seems to be getting more decadent and shallow, this is historically true of most empires in decline, but I don't think it was ever all that evolved or introspective to begin with.
