Age has nothing to with it whatsoever, it's just that you may not be quite so nimble in later years, but at 21 - no problem!

You can learn guitar at any age and it doesn't really matter that much when you learn it, it's just that when you're younger you're not as busy so you have more free time to do things such as learn/play an instrument such as guitar.
If you already know how to play another instrument you may be able to teach yourself some things about how to play guitar instead of relying too much on lessons. Look up the tabs for an acoustic song (or one with acoustic guitar parts in it) and learn those long chords where you have to strum multiple strings to get a nice sound out of the guitar. You can also teach yourself the scales in do-re-mi order on the A string of a guitar starting at the 3rd fret in case you already have access to a guitar. The rest will come with experience and besides I'd probably get carpel tunnel syndrome from typing all of the thing you'd need to know about how to play.

Of course you can learn whenever you want.Never too late but from my experience I'll tell you that if you have never touched a guitar and you don't know music in general it is difficult to become very good.Don't expect to become a virtuoso, you will learn all the basics and it will be fine I think. I went to learn guitar when I was 14 and it was still a bit late, since I was a piano player already and didn't know much about guitars. Well it's not the same to everyone, you may have a talent and you could improve it if you really love this. Good luck!Don't forget:Patience is the most excellent teacher!

Yeah it might be best to learn when you are a child, but you can still learn at 21, there is nothing stopping you! Go ahead and learn how to play the guitar, it's never to late to do something you really want to do!

Of course you can! Why on earth do you think that 21 is old! The 1st time I tried to play a banjo (the only stringed instrument I ever played besides piano), I was 32. I won my 1st beginner's contest after only seven weeks. Within 10 years I was a semi-professional, sitting in with a bluegrass band at a supper club 2 weekends a month.

It's never too late to learn anything. You're learning something new every day, so learning to play guitar could be one of those things.

There is no difference between learning at 21 or any other age. The only difference is in the demands on your time, career, job, social life. If you are disciplined, willing to learn, patient and prepared for some mind-numbing practice sessions as your fingers catch up with your brain, then you can do it. You have to love it - I don't think anyone loves practicing, but they love the results.
Good luck!

anything is best to learn when you are young but I'm trying to learn the guitar and I'm a bit older than 21! I'm in the process of murdering Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven' by the way. Mr. GorgeousFluffpot has to put his hands over his ears when I twang away ... so take courage, you can't be worse than me!

hey Kez... your never to old to learn something new ! if you've got the time then I dont see why you cant take some guitar lessons, once you've mastered the basics you'll feel much better and start to wonder why you hadn't started when you were younger... but no 21's defo not to old.
Think I was 22/23 years old when I started to have some guitar lessons... after learning myself a few years prior to that...
that was some time ago now but six guitars, several keyboards & a set of drums todate with a musical family, I'm please I took those early lessons !
just do it...

It is always better as kids learn new things easier than adults do, but I have a mnate who started learning at 27, and is pretty good now, had no training or tutition. Just depends on how keen you are to learn, and if you persevere.
