dont listen to anyone who says you are overfeeding your baby. you cannot overfeed a baby. they will take what they need. my baby was eating 8oz bottles every 2 hours at 8 weeks. clearly that is a lot but clearly my baby was missing something. it aso depends on the size of your baby. give it a few more weeks and see if yor baby stops or is still increasing . you should never slow his eating down. he needs to grow and his body is telling him that he is still hungry you need to feed him.at 10 weeks we added rice to her diet and it slowed down her feedings. she is now 14 weeks and eats 6 -6 oz bottles of formula in a 24 hour period and a few teaspoons full of rice at breakfast and a few before bed both by spoon. your baby is still too young for rice as was mine at the time it was recommened but for our baby at ten weeks she digested it just fine. your baby might tapor off on his own without having to introduce rice so early. once he is at a steady amount he wiil start to go for longer streches inbetween meals. it goes according to body weight as well.

Feed on demand.

The "rule" is 2.5-3oz for each lbs of body weight per day, up to a maximum of 32 oz. So at 6oz a bottle that is 5 and a bit bottles per day. Mind you if he is spitting up a fair bith then he is going to eat more than that.

If he is spitting up a lot after each feed you could try feeding less in each bottle as really a babies stomach is the size of their fist and 6oz is quite a lot. Bottles drip and some babies, particularly young ones, don't know how to tell you they are done and have a very powerful urge to suck. So they will keep drinking even when they are full. So you could try feeding 4 oz, burping and then maybe offering a pacifier. If he is still hungry he will let you know. However NEVER limit a babies food, if they are hungry feed them.

HOLY CRAP!!! It's a stretch for my two month old to get in five! But I wouldn't worry too much if the baby isn't getting sick. If your baby was born at a higher birthweight, then REALLY don't worry. My friend's little girl was almost 9 lbs and was eating around that much at that time.

That's is a HUGE amount for such a young baby. You should consult a pediatrician though, for some babies that amount could be normal at that age. But if your baby is fussing alot after he eats or throwing up then that is a sign you are over feeding him.

Ask his doctor about giving him a couple spoonfuls of cereal with every other bottle.
