I am sure he would. For one thing he has a better knowledge and understanding of life outside London - and the posh end of Notting Hill. Secondly Haig has firm principles and is likely to stick by them. Cameron is a Blair clone trying to achieve power by the methods of publicity and "spin" pioneered by his New Labour hero.
The thought of a Cameron leadership is making me seriously think of voting for UKIP, even if it is changing its name.

I was always happy with William Haig, well almost except when he tried to be one of the lads. Unfortunately I have about as much hope in the other one ever making a good PM, as I would.

I heard the other day that Mr Haig was on about a million a year. Nearly as much as fony fiddles.

William Hague was the right man at the wrong time. He showed great courage in accepting the leadership when Tony Blair had just gained power with a thumping majority. He would be well aware Tony would win the next election.

He was the only Conservative to outwit Tony Blair at the despatch box.

It would be foolish however, to put Hague up again as leader as he would just be too easy a target for taunts and jibes.

Compare him to Margaret Beckett and decide who you would prefer to have in charge of the Foreign Office.

To answer your question yes William Hague would be a better leader than Cameron.I believe that he would make a fine leader, trouble is in today's image over content ways he just hasn't got the x factor, look how many great singers are rejected from the x factor because they don't look right.Lets face it the British public get the leaders they deserve because they go for image over content & I hate it.William Hague is the best prime minister we will never have & its to all our detriment.

I think William Hague is a much more genuine person (if such a thing exists in the world of politics). I think Cameron will be better than Blair but on the whole I don't agree with many of the conservative policies.

I like William Hague very much. He is a great speaker, very witty and comes over as human. I think too that he is older and wiser than he was in l977, when he had an impossible job trying to rally the Tories after they had been annihalated at the polls. However, I have read accounts of doubts over his commitment these days. He makes a great deal of money outside politics with writing, speeches etc and you couldn't blame him for thinking to hell with the lot of them.

Hague is very personable but was too ambitious and got to be Tory leader too early. He is probably more in touch with Tory thinking than Cameron, who seems to be a shallow Blair clone. So the answer is probably Yes, but it wouldn't be credible for him to return to the job now.

Yes, Hague was grossly underestimated by the stupid voting public, who had been convinced by the lefty TV media that Europe wasn't an important issue. Also, it doesn't matter a jot what politicians look or sound like, as long as they can do the job.

i dont know why this should be a solid rule, but if they loose an election, with one leader who is good but looses, they dont use
them again. Previous tory losses i think have been due to the after shock of anti comunity woman maggi thatcher, nothing to do with haig, that woman ruined the tory party we are still suffering because of her. but the rich liked her she kept them nice and cozy. Haig would be better than camaron. give him anouther bash.
