I want to burn dvds. Like if I download a movie or if I borrow a movie from someone I want to burn it on a dvd for myself. Since this dvd drive is brand new and came with the installation cd and everything, shouldnt I be able to burn dvds? Or will I need to buy a codec or something to be able to do this. I looked in the instruction manual and this is the only thing it said about the subject: "As a cd Rewriter or DVD Rewriter: In order to write to CD or DVD media, you will need additional software. The Recording software kit included with the package will offer you funtion like mastering, packet writing, duplicating, backing up your hard disk or files, capturing audio and more." What does that all mean? Plain english please? do I need to buy some other software or something? If so Im just going to return it to the store.

you need more software, roxio is real good for burning cds and dvds. the newer dvds have copy protection built in, but you can a program that will still copy the protected ones but i do not know any of their names. you could do a search for it.
