get a map from 1900, 1947 and a map from 2007. a lot changed
the treaties after the 2nd world war, and then the collapse of the Soviet union saw a lot of countries, split.
three maps of these approximate dates would be useful

look about this website for some info click on big arrows around the words EUROPEAN HISTORY under the maps .
you should be able to get a upto date map easily, with the unification of Germany, break up of Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia. Plus which other soviet bloc countries have gained independance
