http://www.fonetastic.com is a great website for free texts - you can get free ringtones, free wallpapers, logos etc. - it's a point system (like Yahoo! Answers) - but not much for the items!! You just gotta use the website often!

You really got to go to www.peekamo.com and register for their free service. At peekamo, you can send free TXT messages to anyone in the USA and Canada from your desktop. You don't need to know their carrier or anything. Best part is that it is free, for you and the person receiving the TXT msg (I know for users in Canada its free to receive, not too sure about USA - but definately free to send!). Peekamo uses SMPP not SMTP. Yahoo, MSN and others uses SMTP, so if send an SMTP type of message, the person you are sending it to gets charged. With Peekamo, you don't have to worry about spam either. You can create groups too. I'm from Canada where if you don't have a plan, TXT messages to the US can cost upto 15cents! Peekamo also has an INBOX much like hotmail or Yahoo that you can manage all your text messages from. You can forward, reply, delete, etc. Check it out - it really works and its really free. and no spam at all.
Why pay the telco's when you don't have to right!

Most wireless carriers I know of, allow free text messages to be sent to their customers via their website. For example if you want to send a TM to a Verizon customer you to to Verizon's website and do so. It's free for you, but still may cost the person you are texting unless they have a TM plan with their carrier.

on the o2 site you can get 10 free a month. But you have to sign up to it and give them your mobile number because they need to text a code to you

You could try cbfsms.com. It is not totally reliable but when it working it is good, and it is free as many messages as you like.
