I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu LS (136,000+ miles) with the original alternator still in it.

An automotive battery, is usually good for five years. Alt. shuld be checked, every time battery is replaced.

Depends on who builllt the alternater, how many jump starts are done,

When the alternater does go bad, it is either the carbon brushes have failed, or the diode block blew.

I've got a 1991 Chev. truck and mine is still original too.??

209,000 miles. Original tranny too.
