I use(d) MySpace. At first it was great; it was a novel and new concept so my friends and I used it a lot. 6 months later and we're bored of it. I hardly ever log in anymore, as do my friends. My other half has a music page for his band. As a result of people not logging in that often, the number of people looking at his bands page has declined. I guess we just got bored of it. The other major downfall of all these music sites within MySpace is that so few of them are actually legitimate; anyone can start one up whether it's for their own band or for an already-famous one. You get tired of trawling through them to find the 'official' MySpace page and end up just going directly to a bands official website. I suppose it is good for unsigned bands, however.

As for other general music info, I quite often go to music old mother hubbard www.musicomh.com

To be honest I wouldn't bother setting up another music & community site. The market is full and saturated at the moment. Success stories include

Faceparty
Face-Pic
Myspace
Youtube
Bebo
Pandora
MSN Spaces

It's been done to death now and there's little room left for anyone new.

Things I'd like to see.

A real proper calender that you can set appointments in. It'd be neat if the other person was a user and it sent then am email reminder a day before the meeting.
A more refined message service. The thing that grates me about myspace is receiving messages and requests from artists that do not fit into my musical taste. Make artists define themselves more, and let users filter the type of band they hear from !
Scrap the bulletin system. It's only use is to propogate phishing websites.
Limit how much customization can be done to a page. Myspace looks pretty but is a security nightmare.
Target offers/adverts to the users interests.

I think myspace music is cool... loads of bands/acts get noticed via myspace, but the only problem, is that there is no download option. There should be like download credits or sometihing which you are given (for free) on a monthly basis or something...

Gd luck with Unheard Entertainment- I'm gna visit the site now!

i used to like yahoo music but not so much now as they keep playing averts in betweeen songs think thats a pain!
bebo i dont mind..
but the only thing that does bug me which might help you out that is some of them you having to keep pressing play
it would be alot better if we could choose our fave songs and click play once so it runs all the way through well thats what i think lol
chartsingles.net is a good site as you get to hear the songs that havent come out in the shops yet but yet again you have to keep changing the tunes and pressing play!
good luck with the web site
:+)

well, i've recently rediscovered yahoo, and i'm again loving it! Bebo is good, but with the whiteboard feature, you should be able to upload from other computer drawing tools. Are people going to be able to have their own accounts? if it's like that you should definately make it possible for people to change their backgrounds and settings, and if you keep introducing new features, in a way accessable to most (use idiot proof tabs) then people wont have time to get bored of it :D

I think they are good but they could keep up to date with music that is being released that day and update it everyday once or twice, i use bebo and people have to upload the music video's from youtube and sometimes they change the video and that really annoy's me!!!! i think some people should just leave the video's and music alone!!!! lol GOOD LUCk with your new business!!!! and i hope you do well, you never know i might use your website. :)

bebo is obviously the best...but what would be better was if you could download the songs, podcasts are also really good. like if your company produced a podcast for each genre of music recommending the bands and songs etc.

I think Pandoras algorithm is excellent.
and it has a great, simple interface

The only addition i would like is a playlist so i can quickly cut and past something that " i heard this morning and can't remember what it said it was"

Maybe the playlist could be emailed each day, supported by links to e-shops to buy it ?
