The word "Lady" sounds so gentle and impresses an image of purity and unblemished beauty in mind.

Now, the word "gentleman" does not evoke any such mental picture. It brings up an adjective, a certain quality and nothing more ... and therefore creates more of a vacuum in trend of thought rather than fill in for a special meaning to create understanding ... is this thought in line ... or derailed and daft?!

Well, I didn't realize that the word lady was supposed to invoke such an impression. It seems like a good counterpart to the word gentleman. Either could be used just to describe a man or woman, but they're often used to denote good, decent qualities.

"Gentleman" does evoke those "lady" mental pictures for me. Lady is technically the feminine form of gentleman. However, I can see where you're coming from. Maybe you should submit a new word to the dictionary companies!

You have a lord and lady of the manor, so it is Lord. A lady is the woman who is married to a lord. A gentleman is just someone who is of a fair social standing and is not a peasant. (do bear in mind I am talking of traditionally rather than today, as there are few peasants in industrialised countries and fewer lords and ladies :P)
