Try looking at the exterior passenger-side door handles. It is possible you halted at some point during the previous travel and
drove onward quickly without noticing that someone had attempted an illicit entry. That metal on metal knocking noise
might just be a torn-off mechanical arm or hand-hook of some poor sod who couldn't let go in time.

I take it you stored the car for a period of time, am I right?
you should have put some fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank so the gas would not go bad. Just go out and drive it, and burn some of the gas out, then fill the tank with 91 or premium gas. this will make that knocking stop, plus invest in some sort of feul injector cleaner and fuel line treatment. Lucas oil makes one, and I think it is the best.

I say it's the timing, Time to repair this is approx 15 min in a garage. also look at these sites, but I do the timing 1st.
The timing is when the piston comes up to TDC Top Dead Center and the spark plug fires and the spark ignites the flue which pushes the piston back down giving you power to the trans then the wheels.

if you mean there's a rumbling knocking noise se you walk away from the car, it could be boiling, check your engine for overheating.
