Is hooking up a radio for a Maxda RX8 (2004) any different than a normal hookup? I mean, is it different or is there something special you will have to do to make it work?

The easiest solution is to buy the correct wiring harness for the radio you are installing into your RX8

The factory radio is built into the center of the dashboard trim and part of the a/c controls. I am curious to see what it is exactly you are doing because you will have a gaping hole in the dash or a hard time trying to make things fit plus the loss of use of the led display. There is a kit to tap into the wiring harness to allow blue tooth operation of an ipod or something, but that is to be used with the factory unit. You should leave this installation to a professional who's experienced with Rx8 radios. If you run the wires wrong you'll get airbag light codes from improper wire shielding (airbag wiring in this car picks up electrical noise very easily and this gets interpreted by the airbag computer as a system fault - because technically it is). One of the worst cars to put any aftermarket audio accessories in as far as difficulty is concerned.

Seek professional assistance please - wiring harness repair is expensive and extensive (remove everything - carpet, seats, dashboard) if you screw it up.
