The Chinese did not get along with certain tribes belonging to the India family and forced those certain tribes northwards where they eventually crossed over the Bering straight. to come to what is now central America. And the Indians traveled southwards in search of a climate they were accustomed to. Central America. When this exodus took place is the mystery. 50,000? 100,000 years ago?

First off you cannot predict the GDP for places that existed almost 500 years ago. Scholars who do such are foolish, however, China does become the economic center of the Early Modern World after the implication of the single-whip reform in the 1570's

One of the coolest things about China during its ancient period is that we have records that detial battle and wars that constituted armies well into the 100k. Some think this is ludicrious but when looking at these geogrpahic areas and seeing how much food was cultivated armies of this side coudl indeed exists accordignto soem scholars. There is one particular battle duing the QIn that is said to have had over 150k in casualties.

Prior to the 1500's (when Spain plundered the Americas) China had the highest GDP in the world. But if you want to get a 'feel' for ancient China, I'd highly recommend a series of detective stories written by a Dutch diplomat - Robert van Gulik, using original chinese stories and characters. You should be able to get them through a library, or secondhand bookstores online. He wrote about 16 of them, so there's plenty of choice. As welll as being great detective stories they give an unparalleled (and painless) insight into daily Chinese life around 600AD. The only problem with this approach is that you may end up knowing more than your teacher..
