My favorite short essay has got to be the Winter of Man (out of The Star Thrower by Eiseley). It strikes me all at once as profound and sad and beautiful. And so relevant to today - everywhere I look I see echo's of the essay.

What are you're thoughts as to how the essay pretains to our lives today?

I agree with you that it is pretty much dead on. Its been a while since I read it, so I won't be able to quote from it. But I recall feeling as you do now.
