People get caught up in the competition of buying something and beating someone else out of it and they forget they are sometimes not getting a good deal or value at all.
Bonus for the seller, foolishness for those buyers.
I do my research when buying online and make sure what I'm paying is cheaper than if I bought it offline (shipping versus tax, etc) or if I'm paying more or the same amount, is there a convenience factor that offsets the lack of savings to me.

I've also seen things sell on Ebay for more than I can buy them from another source. I think people either just assume they're getting a deal or they get caught up in the bidding and don't realize that Amazon or somewhere else the identical item can be bought a lot cheaper. I always research the cost in a few places before I bid. That way I know what my "cap" should be.

What kinds of items are you selling? If it's something that cannot easily just be bought new -- like an older model of something that the manufacturer doesn't make anymore -- then that's an easy explanation.
Say for example that you're selling a lamp. Somebody might be looking for THAT EXACT LAMP, maybe because they have a second one just like it and they want to match it but it isn't available in the stores anymore. They're willing to pay a higher price than what they would pay for just any old lamp, because they really want THAT EXACT ONE.

i purchase stuff on Ebay, and while you're diligent adequate you may bid on issues at a lots decrease fee than you will possibly pay everywhere else. I have been given a relatively respectable pc for below 2 hundred greenbacks, and a similar pc might have fee a minimum of four hundred everywhere else. yet I had to bid on the article particularly of making use of purchase it now, or it would have fee alot extra. I by no potential bought something on ebay, so i'm no help in that section, yet human beings might desire to be getting money at it simply by fact they have been doing it for years.

Some of the items may be collectors because they may be at least vintiage. You can make a lot of money on them. I used to do ebay. and no kidding, I bought something one time at a thrift store for $3 and sold for $350.00 almost floored me.
