I've often wondered the same thing. It's painful to watch him, especially when he says "nucular," although I've noticed more and more people using that word these days.

It's tempting to say it's because he's just an idiot, but most of the people on Yahoo calling him an idiot couldn't even get accepted at an ivy league university much less graduate or get an advanced degree like Bush did.

I freeze up when required to do presentations, really bad, dry mouth, shaking hands, fighting to resist taking flight from center stage. On the other hand I've no problems saying what I think comfortably in front of an informal group, and I'm usually even better in text.

And I'm not even President.

How are you at public presentations?

Unlike a the past several presidents we have had, he ad libs. Also, he is more down to Earth in his mannerisms. He doesn't put on airs of snobbery like Pelosi, Kerry or the Kennedys. Contrary to what many say about him, he really isn't stupid. He has done things that do take intelligence to accomplish. By the way, I am not a Bush supporter. I just stay with facts. Actually I dislike a lot of his decisions in the lines of Socialism and the following of NAFTA that Clinton gave us and screwed us with. I also dislike his illegal immigration policies
By the way, one thing that probably causes him to hesitate is that every word that comes out of his mouth is scrutinized by the far left. Even when he says something that is good it gets twisted around. You would hesitate too if the far left were just waiting for one little mistake so they could blow it up into a mountain.
It is funny how the idiotic far left here give a thumbs down so easily. Twice even. It proves my point to their stupidity. Thank you far left for helping me prove my point. You are nut job idiot wackos.

Often those with a poor grasp of their subject matter and a less than stellar intellect have difficulty presenting themselves when public speaking. Also low self esteem and a lack of confidence show through easily when on the public stage. George W. has taken a real beating lately in the polls, the lastest election and in the war of terror. I think any of us who walked a few steps in his shoes right now would be a little hesitant also.

I think he's nervous, like a kid getting up in front of the class for the first time and giving a speech.

I think the look is more like a deer caught in the headlights.

When he's trying to deceive, it's very hard for him to talk natural. He must have a little bit of conscience left. which is good if he'd only confess or even allow the public to see his and Cheney's secret energy notes, which might explain his insistence for the Iraq war.
