You can rearrange it to the form y = 5 - x

Then pick a selection of x's (e.g. -2, -1, 0, 1, 2) and substitute them into the equation to calculate the corresponding y value. You can then plot these co-ordinates.

think of numbers that x and y could be that add to give 5, like:
2 + 3 = 5 (so x is 2 and y is 3) (2,3)
3 + 2 = 5 (so x is 3 and y is 2) (3,2)
1 + 4 = 5 (so x is 1 and y is 4) (1,4)
4 + 1 = 5 (so x is 4 and y is 1) (4,1)
5 + 0 = 5 (so x is 5 and y is 0) (5,0)
0 + 5 = 5 (so x is 0 and y is 5) (0,5)
pick any 3 of these and plot the co-ordinates on the graph. join the three points together for a straight line.

with these things, you should always plot three points, not two. this will help you make sure you haven't made any mistakes because if one is wrong, it won't make a straight line :)

Well, first x+y=5 is the same as y=5-x. (the equation of a line, so it also means that the graf will also be a line).

The you give values for x (from the diven domain, if a domain is given, if not, any real number are ok), and then calculate y.

e.g. :

x=0 => y=5
x=-1 => y=4
x=-3 =>y=2
.
.
.
etc.

Two points are enough to draw a line. You place the points acordingly on the x- and y-axis, draw the line, and that's all there is to it!

use intercept method: x + y = 5
let x = 0, then solve for y,that is:
0 + y = 5
y = 5, therefore, the y intercept is ( 0 , 5 )
next , let y = 0, that is:
x + 0 = 5
x = 5, therefore, the x intercept is ( 5, 0 )

then plot the two points and connect the two by a line.
hope this can help.

x+y=5.
subtract x.
y=5-x. There's the answer.

Graphing it: Begin at the point where x and y meet (the centre spot). Since you have a number value (the 5), you start out at (0,5). Meaning, go 5 up the vertical axis (y). Then, for every 1 place you move to the right, make the points go over left, down 1. The points will read: (0,5), (1,4), (2,3), (3,2), (4,1), (5,0). etc.

Pick out the point (0, 5) and the point (5, 0), and draw a straight line that goes through them (extending as far as you like).

You start with the number 5 and go up to two and over one.

You would... 1) find the point (0,5) and plot a point

2) Then from the point (0,5) you would go to the right one and up one on the chart and plot a point or you could go down and to the left one.--You only have to move one space since it's only x y not 2x or 4y--or anyother number
