Sometimes, the positions are "wired" for the intended recipient. You may never have had a chance, or they may have found somebody that was MORE qualified to fill the position.

My last job (I got the offer, the other qualified person did not), had two people interview. It turns out that the other person was extremely qualified for the position too. But, in the grand scheme of things, I knew some people in the organization and after dropping the names in the interview, my boss called on them and used them for references. I cost more than the other person, but because I knew the right people, I got the nod.

The other guy knew some folks too, but not the people I did. In this instance, he was turned down and it turned out that he had as much to bring to the table as I did.

Bottom line: Sometimes it happens. If you really want to know, call the person you interviewed with and ask them why you did not get an offer.

Sometimes, companies may have situations that force them to reevaluate the position (I was interviewing some people for a positiion and it turned out that the day we were going to make an offer that our company instituted a hiring freeze. If the interviewee had accepted the position one day earlier, he would have been hired. But as he hesitated [he was waiting for an offer for another company - it never came], we had to pull our offer).

I am guessing you dressed and groomed yourself appropriately. If not, there you go. If you did, then it was probably how you spoke to the interviewer--nervous, fast, stammering, etc. Take a while and write down the common questions they all ask and your answers, then practice speaking those answers calmly until you can do it in your sleep. If you seem nervous it can be taken as self-doubt, and people are less likely to hire someone who doubts themselves.

You should check with employment services, perhaps your state unemployment office, to see if you can get interview training. They will video tape a mock interview and they will go over the video with you to see areas of improvements.

It's all in your body language. Study body language on Career Builder.com and you will find hints of what to do in an interview, and what NOT to do. Be confident, be assertive, and talk about your skills and accomplishments and be proud of them.

Just remember this, just be yourself, projecting an image of someone you're not, will NOT get you a job.Be persistent and you will find a job.
