some are ridiculous. it's pure laziness now.

All of them, but especially the lol with a "z" at the end of it (lolz). What the heck is that? Actually, I think we should keep just one and that is "WTF" because I have a gutter mouth & swear all the time.

Most of them originated from IM and a great number of them are not in the mainstream of our communication in other areas, like here for example.
There is a dictionary of terms I think, but to be honest, I haven't used it all that much since whatever is said, I usually can figure out eventually on my own.
I don't know if it is laziness or not, but there is a presumption that we all know what each abbreviation mean, but that is simply not true.

Most (if not all) are ridiculous. Is anyone really in that much of a hurry? If you don't have time to type the entire word/phrase, perhaps you really should not be playing around on im or message boards. Learn to spell.

ur, 2, h8, yru... the list goes on... sometimes you can figure it out with the magic decoder ring...but if you left that in your underwear drawer...urfkd!

there's one that i realy don't know what it means - DH - i think it means husband, but mostly: asl, u, r, l8tr, ggt, ttyl, brb are all stupid.
the only one i use is " lol ", to indicate where'd i'd laugh or giggle, were we speaking in person.
