The year of the pig is celebrated every 12 years. There are 12 animals that make up the Chinese calender and they each represent one year. So the year of the pig will go from Feb 2007 till Feb 2008. Then it will be the year of the Rat and so on.

Your second contributor has given quite a comprehensive answer. This is the first year that I have heard about there being a 'golden' pig - seems that this occurs every 60 years - the last one being in 1947 . . . which makes this Year of the Pig even more auspicious for one born at this time.

actually the year of "golden" pig occur every SIX HUNDRED years, so it's extremely rare
