oh sweetie, consitpation is one of the "joys" of pregnancy. I am curretly 20 weeks pregnant and i am going through it. Its a normal thing our bodys go through when baking that bun in the oven.
One culprit is an increase in the hormone progesterone, which slows the movement of food through your digestive tract. And the problem may be compounded later in pregnancy by the pressure of your growing uterus on your rectum. Iron supplements can make constipation worse.
• Eat high-fiber foods such as cereals, whole-grain breads, and fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Add a couple of tablespoons of unprocessed wheat bran (available at health food stores) to your cereal in the morning and follow it with a glass of water.
• Drink plenty of water — at least six to eight glasses a day. A glass of fruit juice every day, especially prune juice, can also be helpful.
• Exercise regularly. Walking, swimming, riding on a stationary bike, and yoga can all help ease constipation and leave you feeling more fit and healthy.
• Listen to your body. Never put off going to the bathroom when you feel the urge.
• Ask your healthcare provider about taking an over-the-counter fiber supplement or switching to an iron supplement with less iron.
another fix i have found and it WORKS GREAT! is to take a dry fig and soak it in a glass of water for about 3 hours. then drink that water (you can even eat the fig) this is all natural cure that has worked for me the best! (and no risk of harming baby!)

Yes! I must say that fiber did not help me with the constipation. The think warm (safe herbal) tea, does the trick. Lipton makes flavored herbal tea, and it is safe. Have two cups in the morning, and it will work it out sooner or later. I would eat only a few crackers while drinking the tea. Don't miss going the bathroom if you feel the urge, it might not come back for days. Sorry, not to be gross, but I had horrible hemorrhoids at the end of my last pregnancy and the labor and delivery made the problem worse. Really, the tea will help stimulate a bowl movement. Good luck with your new little one!! :)

Yes - anything is considered "normal," from constipation to diarrhea. If you are taking extra iron, you are even more likely to be constipated. I suggest taking a stool softener such as Collace once per day. It works wonders.

Boy I sure was.
And due to a "shy colon" I was for longer than just the last month.
Fiber helps (I took supplements and ate high fiber cereal daily in addition to fresh fruits and veges and prune juice).
As with all pregnancy side-effects, this too will pass.
Congrats on the new wee one!

Diarrhea and bowl moves can replace many times although out your being pregnant. merely make positive you stay hydrated and drink lot's of fluids to make up for what you're dropping at the same time as going to the lavatory.

Yes you can be. Try added more fiber in your diet to help relief this and prevent hemorrhoids.
