I have a Compaq Presario 2200 with a 40G Seagate AT drive. I want to install a new Hitachi 80G ATA/IDE 5400rpm drive. I have removed the old drive, installed the new drive and then the fun begins....I have tried to install WinXP from the cd and it starts loading but then tells me that I don't have a disk drive installed. Why is this? I've tried so many things that I've lost count. By the way....I'm not a techie....I just am mechanically inclined and have a good understanding of computers. I never had any problems working with a desktop so I don't know if I'm missing something in my attempt to install this hard drive.

Can you boot into setup and see if the drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS? Check with Compaq tech support -- the WInXP CD that came with the computer may require a HDD DMI to install.
