I think I can be different most of the time. I try to see the good in everyone, and treat all --even strangers--with kindness and respect. I always go by what it says in the Bible --the Word of God-- Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
So many people nowadays are so wrapped up in themselves and indifferent to others they don't act kindly or in a friendly manner. In this way I guess I might rise above the maddening crowd. And when you are kind or do something kind for someone else, they may in turn do something for another, and then maybe they will and so on.
Sort of either the "random act of kindness" thing or
"pay it forward" philosophy.

Lord I hope so. I try each and every day to do just that.
Rising above the crowd and being different is easy to do, if you just try and live by the Golden Rule.
"Do Unto Others As You Would Have Done Unto You"
Or as can be found in the book of John - John 13:34
"Love one another, as I have loved you"

I don't know, or particularly care, if I am above, below or to the side of the crowd. I have spent my entire life different from the rest and am quite happy with it.

Since I'm older and a little more mature now, I have risen above the crowd and became different. I don't regret it at all. Being different is what makes people unique and interesting.

part of the problem is trying to be different and "rise above the crowd" is so COMMON now!!! it IS a trend!!!

Are you asking about me specifically or if it possible for anybody? I think that i am pretty unique and still there are a group of people very much like me. There will always be that. The best you can do is not intentionally conform to any one way of being or acting or dressing, but you will never be completely unlike anyone else.

There are no two people in the crowd that are the same, so it can't be that hard. Even identical twins have their differences.
