Yes.
In 2002 i was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Adjustment disorder, with mixed anxiety & depression. & Major depressive disorder, single episode. (talk about a mouth full)

..and it took about 7 months of testing, psychiatric and Rx therapy to come to that diagnosis.

Now to answer the question, in technical terms Mental State is defined as a mental condition in which the qualities of a state are relatively constant even though the state itself may be dynamic.

The various conditions include:
Aboulia (Loss of will)
Annoyance (Being irritated)
Anxiety (Ill defined anticipation)
Delusion (an erroneous or unfounded belief)
Depression (a pessimistic sense of inadequacy, a despondent lack of activity)
Disassociation (being separated from the rest of the personality and functions independently)
Fugue (the dissociative disorder of amnesia)
Hallucinosis (Seeing and/or hearing things that are not there)
Nervousness (A sensitive or uneasy psychological state)
Psychopathy (any disease of the mind that requires psychiatric intervention)
Trance (Hallucinosis)
Trauma (emotional shock often having long-lasting affect)
Vexation (Annoyance)

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I've had a good deal of experience with this issue, with people who have applied for Social Security disability benefits.
A mental disability is a condition such as severe clinical depression, or schizophrenia. Such a condition has effected the individual so severely that he/she is not able to function the way most "normal" people can. For example, he/she cannot hold down a job.
If a person applies for benefits for such a disability, Social Security asks that a psychiatrist or psychologist perform a detailed evaluation of the individual and then send in a written report regarding the findings. If the report from an experienced mental health professional states that the individual is indeed severely incapacitated by a mental condition, the benefits will probably be granted.

you need to be on medication not disability. you can get free treatment through your county/state and they can get you into a halfway house and set you up with workforce to get rides to a job. There are many services for people in your situation. There are telemarketer jobs you can do from home should transportation be a problem. The job you are in now sounds like a good fit so stay with it. Contact your local workforce office and see what they have to offer. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there with mental illness that are taking good care of themselves. There are shelters you can go to if your homelife is impossible. disability is not the answer, it will not fix your problems-medication will. Also you would not qualify for disability at your age and it would only be another form of prison as it does not pay enough to support you. You should be aware that if you were determined disabled due to mental illness you would loose all of your rights as a regular citizen and someone like your mother would be appointed as your guardian and she would get the check-not you. She would also have the legal right to controll everything in your life even having you commited to a long term facility because you would be considered legally unfit to make your own decisions.

It seems that people who have mental problems do not actually know they do. People who worry they have a mental problem do not have one. Or so it seems...

A mental health disability can be anything from anxiety to resignation or depression, from being bipolar I or II to schizophrenia (which can be really really different from one person to another)... A mental health disability means there is something your brain is doing wrong, or not doing at all. Well, not your actual brain, it is often parts of it. For example, the front part of your brain is responsible for inhibition.

It is a really complex thing, but sooooooo interesting!

Almost any mental issue can be considered a disability if it effects your life in a major way.

It's hard to prove since it's considered an "invisible disability".
The only advice I can really give you is find a good doctor that is will to testify on your behalf. A good lawyer wouldn't hurt either.

Good Luck (you're going to need it)

unable to focus and always having negetive thinking which is quite bad for health. Some could be sad after arelationship and feel that it the end and no matter how much they try to forget, they juz can't. If they are student, most posibably, the person cannots his emotions and juz cannot concentrate. The mind is disturbed with unhappy things. It could also be a teenager who has sexual thoughts and seeing pornography . OVER Obseesion could be one factor to mental health disability. Basicly, it is not physically but mainly mentally. It is how the person thinks tha lead to a diability related to mind.
