I think it should be revised so that if the 2nd leg goes in to extra time away goals should not count double in that period.

Games only go in to extra time if the scorelines from both legs are exactly the same after 90 minutes. If the first leg ended 1-1 but the 2nd leg ended 2-2 after 90 minutes there would be no extra time.

no i think it's a bad idea and an even stupider one when it applies in the carling cup. It doesn't matter where the goals are scored, whoever has the most should go through over the 2 legs or take it to extra time

Yes it is. Games already go into extra time, but then away goals count double before penalties.

Supposedly it was to encourage the away team to be more aggressive. But I agree, it really is quite irrelevant these days.
