Do they work? I'm not sure if I understand what they "DO". They aren't a machine. They have no tangible function, though your newspaper may have you believe otherwise by telling you which days not to leave the house and on which day you will get a promotion at work. This was and is NOT what their intended purpose is. They are not a divination tool. Its more like a mathematical equation designed to give some insight into why you are the way you are and why you react to life the way you do, ultimately shaping your personality.
And this goes deeper than what month you were born in. Its also the day, year, time and place. All of these things combined create a blueprint. It can tell you where all of the planets were at the moment of your birth, not just the sun. So while you may be a Libra, like i am, your moon may have been in Scorpio, and your Mercury in Pisces, and so on. When you have an entire chart done, you'd be impressed with how surprisingly accurate they can be. But this WILL NOT "WORK" IN TELLING YOUR FUTURE.
I could do your chart but it would be easier for the both of us if you just visited cafeastrology.com and followed the links to receive your free "natal chart".

astrology is a lot more complex than just 12 signs. There are 12 houses, 10 or so major planets, 100s of minor ones...
When you put it all together there are trillions of different possibilities.
I have studied it a bit, and i am convinced that it does have some truth to it. I don't think it defines everything about a person, but certainly something. I also know people who studied astrology to prove it wrong, and were so impressed they became professional astrologers.
On the other hand - i wouldn't even bother reading my starsign in the horoscope section of the newspaper. It is far too simplistic.

if you are talking about the horoscopes you read in magazines etc they are just a general outlook and should not be taken too seriously.
you say there are 6.4 billion people in the world and only 12 star signs.....
.......yes maybe but how many people are born at exactly the same place at exactly the same time......very very few
and that is what your personal horoscope is based on, the planets are changing all the time.....
so for instance someone born in england today at 8pm will have a different personal horoscope from someone born in america at the same time..... although they will both be Aquarius
your personal horoscope which can only be accurate with your time and place of birth is the only one that is any good
why don't you get yours drawn up, you may be surprised (as most people are) at just how accurate it is

Horoscopes is a matrix of time and space. Western Zodiac is based on months. Eastern Zodiac is based on years. Broadly speaking you have now 2 variables by Year and Months. That is before drilling into hours, of which there is 24. Eastern Zodiac is further maginified by 5 cycles of 12 years each. Giving you 60 years cycle. Granted there are still 5 billion people in the world boxed into various categories. But as you can see, a simple permutation count will yield thousands if not millions of boxes. AND Boxes they are. People are boxed and matrixed. Hence a deeper question : How does it work ? Humans are born as a spiirt with a soul and a body with personalities and talents....The original intent was an eternal relationship with God. But that relationship has been broken and man allowed evil to co-exist. In fact it was a collaboration that led to the fall. Man worship everything other than God, including the moon, sun and stars and planets, the origin of Astrology allowing "Principalities and Powers" in high places to influence their lives. And by boxes they rule, if you allow them to becasue they have the authourity to, till all things belong to the Son of God again. The only way out of the fortune and mis fortunes the stars brings and influence our lives is by the power and authority of the Creator which is now vested in His Son Yeshua - Jesus the Christ.

Good point.
Another is that the Zodiac used by astrologers is wrong. Not alternative, not 'new age', just wrong. It bears no resemblance to anything actually happening in the sky! It is based on an erroneous concept of the ecliptic, the sun's apparent path through the sky.
For example, according to my birthday, I am a Pisces. However, if you actually look at the ecliptic on the date of my birth, then the sun was actually in Ares, not Pisces!
And of course, it wasn't 'in' anything. The constellations of the Zodiac are not real groupings of stars in space, they are just chance alignments as seen from earth. So there is no Pisces or Ares or Capricorn for the sun to be in! And the Sun does not move along the ecliptic at all, it's an illusion caused by the movement of the earth.
Astrologers are stuck in a centuries old, pre-scientific, geo-centric view of the universe that is utterly, utterly false and discredited. It can not work, and it does not work, it's all just rather sad delusion.

Horoscopes are so broad.
I can make any of the 12 'readings' relevant to me.
My personality fits into all 12.
Derren Brown did an interesting thing a year or 2 back where he wrote a so called 'personal' horoscope for a group of people. They were all so amazed that he had 'read' them but it turned out he had written exactly the same for each of the participants.
Point made

What do you think? If they REALLY did work, and it was a proven science, then they would get more credible public exposure than the back of the TV guide.
It is still being followed, because some people can only function with the thought that some divine spirtual force is driving their lives. Although here in the UK, I'd like to believe I control my own destiny, and it is not held in the chubby hands of some overweight fruitcake like Russel Grant.

Horoscopes are a load of rubbish.
People read them and think it has amazing similarities to their life but they are written in such a generic and non specific way that they apply to everyone in one way or another.
People who read star signs and actually believe them are one sandwich short of a picnic and should go out and get some much needed lovin

They are just entertainment. To prove it, just take tomorrow's paper and open it up to the horoscopes. Cover all the signs and then read every horoscope. Does it appear that it could be about you? Yes, it does. Because they are so general in information it could apply to everyone.
