If the fish is sick and you can't/won't treat it, use clove oil to euthanize it.You can find clove oil at the walmart pharmacy.
If the fish is healthy, rehome it.
Flushing a fish sends it down the pipes into the septic system. Here it lives for a few days while the chemicals in the water burn the fish's body alive. Sometimes the fish get stuck in a dry pipe and suffocate instead. Flushing is not a good way to get rid of a fish.

Bury it. Thats what I do. Flushing is cruel and evil. They go through water plants and probably end up getting mashed into a pulp. Not very respective to a good fish

I always used to flush mine (I had a big aquarium) but, how about put it in a matchbox and dig a little hole in the garden to bury it in? Seems like a more anthropomorphic thing to do, might make you feel that you had said good bye in a more appropriate way.

God Heavens. Just throw the darn thing in the toilet and flush. No need getting all worked up over a fish.

is it alive? sell it for a buck on craigslist.com
if its dead have a ceremony in the back yard. make a casket out of a plastic food storage container lined with paper towels. say a few bible verses and drop him in and cover him up. a chant for the procession back in is good.
