Of course deserts are a natural feature, but their expansion and moving to new areas is not, and it is preventable. Places at risk are Semi-arid climates. These places recieve enough rain to support some vegetation, grasses mostly. This vegetation does not regenrate quickly so desertification happens with it is disturbed more quickly than it can regenerate. If once the soil is gone, the soil is not protected and can erode very quickly. This decreases the quality of the land until it is no supports the native shrubs and grasses, and we have new desert areas.

Intensive use of this land by man for any purpose (grazing, farming, construction ) can push this land into desertification.
