You can get a job and make all the money you want. The social security check you get is meant as a form of child support. It has nothing to do with you personally. Now if your Mom. and she collects S.S. for her disabilities and she were to work, she would probably be limited as to how much money she can make. I know of a few people in the same situation. But you can always call the s.s. office for yourself.

I receive disability, and when my son was a minor and receiving benefits,he was able to make $700.00 a month before the benefits would be affected. That was several years ago,so I'm sure the limit has gone up some.If you make over the limit, they will take away $1.00 for every $2.00 you make over the limit. If you keep your earnings under the limit, you should be ok.
Remember though,if your family is receiving any other government benefits such as food stamps, any income you make could affect those benefits.I'm not 100% sure by how much, but I always had to report any income my son had working a summer job.

According to the link shown, you could earn up to $12,960 per year without your benefits being affected. Call Social Security directly at 1-800-772-1213 to get specific information about your personal situation. Don't rely on what you get here.

If you are receiving a monthly Social Security check, contact Social Security - not the welfare office.

Call the social security administration office directly. Explain your entire situation to them and they will be more than happy to advise you as to what is best for your situation.

Every situation is different with social security so it is best to speak with them directly. They are the only ones that really can advise you as to how much you can earn, since you are a minor. You are a truly wonderful young man to be looking out for both your mom and your self.

God Bless you both.

If you are not a beneficiary of welfare and you are listed as a dependant then I have no right answer...

dont mess around with half assed Yahoo answerers.Half these people mean well and have no idea either... go straight to the welfare office and ask them for a ruling .

then get the ruling in writing and procede from there.

This is to seriuos a matter to get half assed advice about.

Sorry about your circumstances dude. , I hope you get only good things from here...

you have to call Social Services in your area and let them know the situation. I think you can only get SSI until you are 18 unless you are continuing your education and a full time student. But the only people that can help you are Social Services.

Talk directly to a representative of social security, you can probably ask them on the phone ( be sure and write down their name ). Good Luck.

Don't you realize, the ash whole, conservative Republicans on this website will call you lazy, and accuse you of ripping them off if you try to get help getting out of poverty? To them, merely being on Social Security means that you are stealing taxpayer's money. It does'nt matter to them that you are poor. They don't like poor people. Just look at the present administration. I say that you should be able to get help right away.

My condolences for your loss. I think that you need to sit down with a social worker to discuss your options instead of asking advice from people online who may be well-meaning but know little of the law. God bless.
